The release of the 2025 PSLE results (on 25 November 2025 at 11:00 a.m.) marks a big milestone and with it comes the Secondary 1 Posting Exercise, where students and parents make school choices for Sec 1.
Understand the Landscape: What the MOE Facts Say
It's helpful to ground your support in how the system works so you're making informed decisions together.
S1 Posting Window: Parents submit Secondary 1 school choices via the MOE S1 Portal from 25 Nov (11:30am) to 1 Dec 2025 (4:30pm).
Posting Results: The Secondary 1 posting results will be released on 18 or 19 December 2025.
Guaranteed Places: According to MOE, more than 90% of students in recent years were posted to one of their six school choices.
Tie-Breakers: When students have the same PSLE score for a school’s remaining spots, MOE uses tiebreaking rules: first citizenship, then order of school choices, and then computerised balloting (about 1 in 10 students are decided this way).
Full Subject-Based Banding (Full SBB): Many secondary schools now use this model. This gives flexibility: students can take subjects (English, Math, Science, etc) at different levels based on their Achievement Levels (ALs) from PSLE.
PSLE Scoring System: Under the new AL system, students receive ALs (1 to 8) in each subject. Their total PSLE score is the sum of the ALs, which means the score ranges from 4 (best) to 32 (worst) under this system.
Flexibility in School Choices: MOE strongly encourages students and parents not to rely solely on previous years’ cut-off points (COPs), because these can change by a few points depending on that year’s cohort.
Holistic Considerations: Beyond PSLE score, MOE explicitly says to look at school culture, distinctive programmes, subject offerings, and CCAs (co-curricular activities) when making school choices.
Why These Facts Matter and How They Change the Conversation
Knowing these facts helps shift the conversation from “score shock” to strategic, mindful planning.
Since many students do get one of their chosen schools, it’s worth spending time picking a balanced list.
The AL scoring system and Full SBB means there’s more flexibility in what level your child can take subjects.
Because COPs can shift, it's healthy to include 2–3 schools where the cut-off was lower than your child's score in previous years.
Understanding tie-breakers can help you explain to your child why they may not get their top choice. It’s not just about score. There’s a method.
Why This Matters
Many parents worry about just getting into a good school, but real success is about what happens after posting: whether your child can engage meaningfully in subjects they love, and whether they have learning strategies that carry forward.
At one2tuition, we've seen students grow not just in scores, but in confidence, the kind that helps them ask questions, fix mistakes, and keep improving even in Sec 1 and O-Levels.
Final Thoughts (with Heart + Clarity)
The 2025 PSLE results and the Secondary 1 Posting Exercise are significant, but they are not destiny. By combining knowledge, smart support, and emotional care, you can help your child do more than “get through”. You can help them flourish.
At one2tuition, whether in Hougang, Bukit Timah, or Novena, our mission is to empower students in Math, English, and Science so they don’t just pass exams. They build real understanding, thinking skills, and a love for learning.
